About the event

An open table for families to draw together (KIDS GO FREE). Using charcoal, graphite sticks and simple mark-making, Karen Howse will guide you in looking closely at small treasures gathered from the landscape: stones, twigs, seed pods and other natural finds. This is a chance to notice the shapes and textures that often go unseen and to let drawing become a way of sharing discovery across generations. This gathering is part of Karen’s exhibition Stones, rocks & other beings, where drawings, prints and assemblage chart her wanderings with rocks across moor and mine.

All materials provided. Suitable for children and adults to take part side by side. Teas and refreshments included.

About the Exhibition:

Stones, rocks & other beings | Karen Howse | Lanstefan Arts | 2nd to the 31st of Oct 25, open 11 - 3pm

Artist-wanderer Karen Howse has been in correspondence with stones lately, rocks found whilst walking near Craddock Moor mine and whilst seeking an elliptical Stone Circle near Rough Tor, Overlapping lithical territories found their way into her thoughts and drawings, an overlay of numerous other journeys and wanderings with rocks as lode stone. Rocks are used as a way to orientate, a recognisable weight to hold in the palm or rest your back against. In precarious, shifting times, stones seemed like a good place to settle, a steadying place to reflect on our deeply interconnected relationships with other beings. Lanstefan Arts is a new experimental art space in the ancient town of Launceston, promoting connection through combined arts, talks and workshops.
